Burial Register

Council keeps records of burials dating back to 1896 for the Cowell Cemetery located on Melrose Road. The Register contains the following details about the deceased:

• Name
• Section (Row No)
• Age
• Date of Burial
• Plot/Grave Number
• Place of Abode
• Who performed the Ceremony
• Cemetery & Section

The cemetery is maintained by Council staff and volunteer labour.It caters for conventional burials as well as a niche wall for cremation ashes. A site plan is available at the Council office..

Grave Sites

If you would like to lease a grave site in Cowell cemetery, please contact Council Administration . Plot sizes are 1.4m x 2.7m single or 2.8m x 2.7m double. Fees and Charges for 2017/2018 financial year are as follows:

• Grave Digging - 6 Foot Grave-  $700.00
• Grave Digging - 7 Foot Grave - $800.00
• Lease Fees -  Single $700.00 - Double - $1000.00
• Niche Wall - Standard Plaque ( 5lines ) - Cost of Works
• Niche Wall - Additional Lines ( 7 lines ) - Cost of Works
• Niche Wall - Lease Fees - Single $700.00 - Double $1000.00

Monuments

There are no fees for monument works being carried out in district cemeteries, however all materials must be supplied by the persons doing the work. Please advise Council's Works Manager prior to undertaking any work.
