Council services

Effective 30 March 2020, the District Council of Franklin Harbour has updated a range of measures to its operations. These measures are in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure the health and safety of its staff and the community, while providing the continuity of essential services.

Playgrounds, parks and reserves

As of 4 May playgrounds and skate parks are open, we remind users of these facilities that social distancing practices must be adhered to.

Visitor Information Centre, Craft Shop and Historical Museum

The Visitor Information Centre, Craft Shop and Historical Museum are all closed until further notice.

Public Toilets & Showers

All public toilets and showers are open and the cleaning of these facilities has increased.

Refuse Site

The refuse site remains open and can be accessed by the general public at the normal opening times, please ensure social distancing is undertaken at all times whilst attending this site.

The Cowell Aerodrome is located 2.0 nautical miles west/northwest of Cowell and is contained in an area of 125 hectares of land adjacent to the Lincoln Highway, on John McFarlane Drive.

The aerodrome has three unrated clay/sand runways.

12/30 is 1057 metres long
17/35 is 1472 metres long

The main runway 04/22 is 1188 metres long and is fitted with electric (L4) lights that may be activated on frequency 120.6.

A terminal building located at the Aerodrome has basic facilities, toilets and ring out (local call only) phone. Fuel is not supplied - however, arrangements can be made through the local Ampol Westcoast distributor.

No charges are payable for the use of the Aerodrome facilities.
